​Descrition

We will start by visiting a typical cheese farm and learn the essentials about the fabrication and types of the world-renown "Gouda" cheese. Next, driving through an impressive water-surrounded landscape, we visit an authentic fishermen's village and its characteristic houses, learning about the struggles and hardship of seamen's lives, and the role of fish industry in Holland's history.  

Driving through impressive dykes we will learn how Holland's geography illustrates the constant struggle with water - the World-heritage Beemster Polder is a 400 year-old low-lying tract of land enclosed by dikes. Polders added about 40% of the country's area, in a long-lasting effort to drain marshlands and peat fields.  

Our last stop will be a historical windmill - the machine traditionally used to drain the fields, saw wood and grind a multitude of materials - from grain to minerals. Once there were more than 10,000 windmills once in The Netherlands. 1.200 still remain. 
This impressive machine, responsible for a true industrial revolution, allowed Holland to inaugurate a lively shipping industry, who attracted interest from allover the world.
